REDUCING COSTS. PLANS TO AMALGAMATE BUTTER FACTORIES. (Per United Press Association.) Timaru, March 18. A representative meeting of all South Island butter factories was held here today, Mr J. Fisher (Southland) presiding. After a discussion on the needs of industry, it was decided that in order to reduce costs and enable the industry to meet the altered economic conditions, that each district be asked to consider plans for the amalgamation of all butter factories in the area. The meeting was unanimously of the opinion that the dairy industry should have a special representative at the Ottawa Conference and endorsed the Dairy Board’s decision that Mr W. Goodfellow should be the representative of the industry as he was the outstanding personality in the industry to-day gnd his knowledge of overseas marketing conditions was unrivalled.
