CLIFDEN NOTES

W.D.F.U. (From Our Correspondent.) On Saturday evening the Waiau branch of the Women’s Division Farmers’ Union held their first monthly meeting for the year 1932 in the Clifden House. Mrs R. Lawson, president of the branch, occupied the chair with Miss F. Chilman as honorary secretary. Some 13 members of the branch were present and after the usual business routine of the branch had been carried out, a very enjoyable evening was spent in discussing various household hints. t A meeting of the Clifden Picnic Committee was held in the Clifden School but owing to the lack of interest and support, it was decided by those present not to hold a picnic this year.

Tennis Match. On Saturday, the sth inst., a tennis match between Clifden and Motu_ was played on the Orawia courts resulting in a win for Clifden after a very* closely contested game. An interesting feature of the day’s play was that Motu’s first man player was Vernon Dowling. He is a youth of about 16 years and undoubtedly with practice and experience this lad promises to be a player of the first class. The following are the results. Eastern Bush Picnic. The Eastern Bush picnic after a season’s lapse was revived and the usual popularity of this outing was manifest by the large. attendance and spiritedly contested events.
