OTAUTAU NOTES

METHODIST CHURCH. (From Our Correspondent.) The Ladies’ Guild met on Thursday, when there was a good attendance. The Rev. N. Challenger took the opportunity to welcome two new members. A lengthy discussion ensued relative to the visit of the Maori party on March 30, and it was eventually decided to hold a garden party at the residence of Mr and Mrs T. J. Walker to accord them a welcome. The Bible Classes re-opened for the session on Thursday evening, when Mr John Churchill, district organizer, paid a visit and gave an instructive and inspiring address. Mr Challenger congratulated Mr Churchill on being appointed as a home missionary at Mayfield, stating that the best wishes of the Bible Class members and members of the Methodist Church accompanied him.

Sunday School Picnic. There was an attendance of close on 250 at the Presbyterian Sunday School picnic held at Glenburn on Saturday, and the day being fine the outing was greatly enjoyed, especially by the young folk. Messrs G. Burnett, Low and J. Smith placed their lorries at the disposal of the committee, and parents and scholars were quickly conveyed to their destination. The children were supplied with apples, lollies and nuts, and games were played. Before dispersing Mr G. A. Burnett, thanked Mr A. McKenzie

for placing his property at the disposal of the teachers and scholars, and moved a hearty vote of thanks to him. In reply Mr McKenzie said he was only too pleased to have them. He paid a generous tribute to the teachers for devoting their time to teaching the children. In his opinion this did more good than all the legislation passed, and the thanks of the Empire were due to them.
