HEDGEHOPE NEWS

(From Our Correspondent.) The coronation ceremony of the Football Princess, Miss Hope Hamilton, as Queen of the Carnival, took place on Friday evening in the hall before a packed house. The evening began with a concert. The procession of the coronation ceremony was headed by the Master of Ceremonies (Mr M. Hanning) and included: Basket Ball Princess, Miss Mabel McLeod; School Princess, Miss Margaret Coster; flower girls, Misses Isabella Jukes, Gladys Thomas and Edna Kania; standard bearer, Master A. Lion; jester, Master lan Lion; crown bearer, Mr L. Jenks; sword bearer, W. Coster; sceptre bearer, J. Murphy; Queenelect, Football Princess, Miss Hope Hamilton; pages, Master H. McCosh, Misses Jean Potts and Bella Bradshaw; mistress of robes, Mrs Lion; ladies in waiting, Misses Frances and Jessie Horton, A. Hanning, D. Lcebody and E. Humphries; prime minister, Mr G. Horton; chancellor of exchequer, Mr W. Potts; lords in waiting, Messrs J. Hamilton and C. Coster. Mr C. Coster, chairman of the School Committee, placed the crown on the head of the Queen. After supper the company enjoyed themselves with a dance. Princesses’ votes amounted to approximately £5B, which will go a long way to liquidate the debt for school grounds improvements.

School Picnic. The Hedgehope and Glencoe combined schools picnic was held in Mr C. McKay’s paddock. The weather was not at its best, in fact several heavy showers were experienced, but it was not sufficient to damp the enthusiasm of the competitors. Mr J. Sanderson and his committee deserve great credit for the energy displayed -and the promptness in getting the races off. Results: Boys, 6, R. Hamilton 1, F. Sanderson 2, C. McDonald 3.
