BOWLS

FIXTURE AT GORE. “OLD BOWLERS” WIN. One of the most successful and enjoyable bowling fixtures played in the Eastern District this season took place on the Hokonui Club’s green on Wednesday afternoon when bowlers over 50 years of age met and defeated their younger rivals by 96 to 84. Among those who took part in the fixture were several veteran players, who have taken a prominent part in the game in Southland and several who still figure prominently in club and centre competitions. The oldest veteran present was Mr John Day, who, notwithstanding his 86 years, still takes a keen interest in the game and enjoys spending an afternoon on the green. At the conclusion of the game, Mr A. Wallis presented a shield, donated by Mr A. J. Scott, to the winners and expressed the hope that the fixture would become an annual one. Mr W. Gee responded and said the “Old Fellows’ would do their best to retain the trophy.
