MR T. J. CAMERON FAREWELLED. (From Our Correspondent). At the conclusion of business on Monday evening, members of the local railway staif met Mr Thos. J. Cameron who has been stationmaster during the last four years and who has been promoted to relieving officer in Christchurch and in addition to the staff Messrs R. Hutton, J. H. Sutherland and J. McDonald lepresenting the Southland Frozen Meat Co. Ltd. and Messrs R. McGillivray and S. Wilson representing the carriers were present also. Mr R. Thomas was entrusted with the duty of making the presentation of a dinner waggon and a tobacco pouch (well filled) to the guest, his remarks being expressive of the regard and esteem in which he was held by his staff and also those whose work kept, them in close touch with the railway, and he conveyed the good wishes of those present to him ’and congratulations on his promotion. Eulogistic remarks concerning the departing officer were also made by Messrs R. Hutton, A. Auld, McMaley, 'and R. McGillivray after which the recipient returned thanks and conveyed his recognition of their loyal co-operation in his work and hoped that good fortune would attend them in whatever sphere they would be called upon to serve. To suitably recognize the interest and work in the affairs of the Mataura Bowling Club by Mr and Mrs T. J. Cameron (who left for Christchurch yesterday morning), members and their wives gathered in the club’s pavilion on Tuesday evening for a social hour. The president of the club (Mr John Buchanan) presided, and presented the guests, with a pipe and brush and comb set respectively, at the same time expressing the thanks of members for the former’s services as secretary, and at all times a member of the leading rink of the club and the latter’s assistance in the social side of the club’s affairs. Messrs R. Hutton, A. N. Mac Gibbon and Wm. Buchanan endorsing the previous speaker's remarks. On behalf of Mrs Cameron and himself, Mr Cameron thanked all for their sentiments and presents and said they looked forward with great delight to their association with them all on the green. During the evening several musical items were given by members present and a happy evening concluded at 10 p.m, with Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
