(From Our Correspondent.) The children from St. Mary’s (Wyndham) and St. Hilda’s (Edendale) held their first combined picnic on Saturday last at Mr Peter Campbell's farm. Though slightly wet underfoot, the atmospheric conditions proved to be ideal, and the children all voted the day a great success. Games were played before lunch, and refreshments were served on the picturesque riverside, seating accommodation being provided by a fallen tree, partly dismembered by the wood cutters. The children were taken for a ramble through the bush and over the swing bridge. In the afternoon numbers of race#—some amusing in their novelty—were run. Girls, 9 to 12: Marjorie Campbell 1, Connie Ireland 2. Boys, 9 to 12: Elder Wilson 1, R. Smart and G. Newland (tie) 2. Wheelbarrow race: Desmond Malcolm and Oliver Smart 1, S. Richardson and R. Smart 2. Consolation races were won by Effie Robertson, Diana Archibald, J. Ward and Tom Cook. After tea, the Vicar (the Rev. J. Simpson) thanked Mr Campbell for so kindly placing his property at the disposal of the picnickers. Sports Society. A committee meeting of the Amateur Sports Society was held on Friday evening. It was decided to hold a half-day meeting on Easter Monday, officials being appointed to carry out the programme. The following programme was decided on:— Ono mile cycle race (local), 100yds running (open), half-mile cycle race (open), 120 yards running (open), 75yds ladies,, one mile cycle (open), Boy Scouts' events, Girl Guides’ events, 220yds running, (open), two mile cycle race, 440yds running (open), 220yds running (junior), 100yds ladies, 880yds running (open), 100yds running (junior), one mile running, javelin throwing, hammer throwing, putting shot, discus throwing, long jump, high jump, hop step and jump, children's events.
