Sales reported: Union Steam Ship Co. 20/-; 51 per cent. Bonds (1937) £9B 15/-. LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE. ALL ROUND IMPROVEMENT. LARGE FAT SHEEP OFFERING. There were increased yardings in all sections at the weekly Lorneville stock sale which was held in bright sunshine yesterday before a large attendance. The fat sheep offering was the largest at this centre for some considerable time and all round there improved tone in evidence. Following is a comparison of the entries in the individual sections for the last two sales: —

Included in yesterday’s yardings were 60S 'fat lambs, five vealers, eight dairy cows anil three bulls. STORE CATTLE: Therfe was an improved tone about this section. Three-year-old bullocks made .up to £5, two-year-old steers £2 10/-, yearling steers up to 25/-, two-year-old heifers (factory calvers) £2 10/-. FAT CATTLE: There was an increased yarding of average quality cattle, the prices for these being quite up to those realized last week. Prime heavy-weight bullocks brought, up to £9 5/-, good quality sorts from £7 to £B, lightweights from £5 10/- to £6 10/-, prime heavy cows up to £6 5/-, prime medium quality sorts from £4 to £5, inferior down to £2, prime handy-weight heifers up to £6 10/-, medium £4 15/- to £5 10/-, lighter weights down to £3 10/-. VEALERS: There was only a small yarding with little change in values. Medium sorts realized up to 25/-, with younger and poorer quality sorts down to 12/6. STORE SHEEP: This was a good. sale. Best rape lambs sold up to 10/-, medium lambs about 7/-, smaller lambs down to 3/6, sound-mouthed ewes up to 10/-, a pen of 2,4, 6 and 8-tooth 10/-, small 2-tooth wethers 8/-, old ewes 3/- to 4/-, and poorer sorts down to 1/4. FAT SHEEP AND LAMBS: Approximately 90 per cent, of the large yarding consisted of fat ewes. The sale was the best for some time and freezing buyers operated keenly for ewes at limits ranging from 6/to 7/3. Good quality butchers’ ewes sold from 7/6 to 8/6, prime heavy ewes up to 10/6, best butchers’ wethers from 16/- to 17/-, prime quality medium weights 13/6 ' to 15/-, with freezing prices ranging from 10/- to 12/6 for lighter sorts. There was a large yarding of good quality lambs for which there was keen competition, with the result that prices were 1/- to 1/6 per head better than last sale. Prime heavy lambs sold up to 17/6, heavy freezing weights from 15/- to 16/3, good quality medium weights 14/- to 15/-, and unfinished down to 11/-.

McNAB STOCK SALE. SMALL OFFERING. There was an unusually small offering at the fortnightly stock sale at McNab yesterday and little interest was taken in the sale. The entry of sheep was confined to a single pen of fat wethers and to two lines of two-tooth ewes. The wethers realized 14/- and the ewes 14/5 with a pen of

smaller sorts selling at 8/-. In the cattle section only stores were on offer. These met with little demand and the whole of the entry was passed in. Sales were:—■ Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd.: 10 fat wethers at 14/-. Passed 'in: Aged cow at 10/-, 4 18-months steers at 22/6, 4 calves at 10/-, 23 store steers at £2. Dalget-y and Co., Ltd.: 225 two-tooth ewes at 14/5; 20 do. at 8/-. LONDON WOOL SALES. A FIRM TONE. London, March 7. At the wool sales 8777 bales were offered, including 2949 from New Zealand, and approximately. 3274 were sold. There was a firm tone to the market and the offerings cleared readily, Bradford securing the bulk of the crossbreds and the Continent most of the Merinos and greasies. Range of prices was: New Zealand “Ruaka” top price 9<l, average 63d, “Eclipse” lambs’ slipes 10}d. The Bradford tops market was quiet and with an easier tendency. PRICE OF GOLD. London, March 7. Gold is quoted at £5 17/- per ounce. DAIRY PRODUCE QUOTATIONS.
