The Tamatea makes her weekly run to Stewart Island to-day, leaving Bluff at 10.15 a.m. and returning to connect with the 6.18 p.m. train for Invercargill. The ketch Lily arrived from Stewart Island at 12.20 p.m. yesterday and sailed again for the island at 4 p.m. The coastal freighter Storm Is due to arrive for an 8 o’clock start this morning. She has 150 tons for discharge and 250 to load and sails on completion this evening for Dunedin. The Federal liner Somerset is due to arrive from Dunedin on March 17. After finishing operations at Bluff the vessel is due to sail on the 19th for London. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Tongariro is due to arrive at Bluff from Tokomaru Bay on the 21st and to sail for Port Chalmers, Timaru, Wellington and London on the 24th. The National Mortgage and Agency Company advise that transhipments ex the Tamaroa will be coming from Wellington by the first available vessel. The Canadian National steamer Canadian Cruiser left Halifax on February 27 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Australia. She is due at Auckland on April 7. Cable advice received states that the Canadian Challenger reached Halifax on February 26. She left Dunedin on January 9 for New York, Boston and Halifax, via the Panama Canal. The A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer Benholm is scheduled to leave New York on March 17 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Shaw, Savill Company has received cable advice that the I’akeha reached Southampton on February 29, She left Wellington on January IS for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canal and Kingston. When the Union Company's Maratna left Wellington on Friday afternoon for Sydney she carried by far the largest number of passengers for many years, it not actually a record number. By last Wednesday afternoon between 450 and 500 passengers had booked, and the Marania is a full ship, the attraction at Sydney, of course, being the opening of the harbour bridge on March 19. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has received advice that reductions have been made in the Manchester Ship Canal Company’s rates and charges as from January 4 last as follows:—(1) Six and a quarter ]4er cent off rates previously in force for discharging and loading vessels, quay portage, etc. (2) Thirty per cent off rates for warehousing and storing goods in the. open (exclusive of rents), in lieu of the reduction of 25 per cent previously in force. (3) Five per cent off charges previously in force for the use of tugs assisting vessels within the canal.
