INCOME LEVY MAY BE LOWERED. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, January 16. The Daily Express’s lobbyist says a reduction of the income tax is regarded as a certainty in connection with the Budget. Mr Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, hopes the reduction may even exceed sixpence, as he is assured that direct taxation is checking industrial enterprise. The decline in dole payments and the prospects of a general tariff are giving I a' fillip to British industry and assisting : the Exchequer increasingly.
