Southland Nurses

ANNUAL DINNER. Friendships were renewed and memories revived in the atmosphere of good fellowship pervading the Rosewood on Wednesday evening when eighty trained nurses throughout Southland gathered together to attend the annual dinner of the Southland Branch of the New Zealand Trained Nurses’ Association. The rooms were beautifully decorated for the occasion with flowers given by Mrs E.,J. Mills. Mrs J. Hargest (Rakauhauka) was the guest of honour, and a letter of good wishes was read from Miss Lambie (Director of Nursing).

■Miss N. P. Arnold (president) in extending a welcome to those present, some of whom had travelled long distances, said that the executive had worked hard lb make the function a success, and she hoped everyone would have a really jolly time. At the conclusion of dinner a short toast list was honoured, and apologies were received from Mesdames A. S. Hogg, P. Meffin, 0. Moen, E. B. Pilcher, E. S. Wade, D. Pottinger, Sheehan, Handyside, A. On the adjournment to the lounge after dinner floral tributes were presented to Miss Carnahan and Miss Pay by Miss Arnold, who said that these two ladies had practised their profession for twenty-five or thirty years in Invercargill, and the association was grateful to them for their support and loyalty. During the evening Mrs Owen-Johnston entertained the gathering with an interesting Travel Talk, and enjoyable musical items were given by Misses Bridges, Wilson, Mehaffey and Warring. At the conclusion of the evening Miss Finlayson thanked all those who had helped to make the function a success, and an enjo-able evening was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
