Mr and Mrs T.’A. Nicholson and family, Herbert street, leave for Queenstown on Wednesday morning. Mr and Mrs B. W. Hewat and family, Russell street, leave on Thursday for three weeks in Queenstown. Mrs J. C. McDonald and Miss Barbara McDonald, Islington street, leave on Wednesday for Queenstown. Mr and Mrs W. L. Bews, Lewis street, leave on Boxing Day on a camping trip through Otago Central Mrs G. M. Polson, Alice street, leaves to-day for Garfield, where she will spend the Christmas holidays. Sister Paterson, of St. Helens Hospital left on Thursday for Auckland, where she will spend her annual leave. Mr and Mrs T. Menzies Watson, who came in from Morven for the Dunlop-Wil-son wedding, and stayed with Mr and Mrs J. L. Watson, Forth street, returned home on Thursday.

Miss O’Byrne, Dalrymple road, left on Thursday for Whangarei and Russell where she will spend a few weeks prior to visiting Napier and Hastings on her return journey.

Mrs R. M Strang and Miss Dorothy Strang, Lewis street, leave on Wednesday for a few weeks’ holiday at Queenstown. They will be joined after Christmas by Mr R. M. Strang.

Miss Doris Webb, who has been the guest of Mrs Robert Stout, Layard street, leaves this morning on her return to New Plymouth. She intends spending Christmas in Wellington.

Captain and Mrs Douglas Maxwell of Wanganui, and their small daughter, Jocelyn, left yesterday by motor to spend the Christmas holidays in Invercargill. They are accompanied by Mrs Maxwell’s mother, Mrs John McQueen, Dalrymple road, who has been visiting them.

Mr and Mrs Robert Dunlop, of Ashburton, and Miss Jessie Dunlop, who came to Invercargill on 'Tuesday evening, returned north on Thursday. Mrs and Miss Dunlop were the guests of Mr and Mrs W. J. S. Dunlop, Forth street. Mr Dunlop stayed at the Grand.

Mr and Mrs J. B. Reid, Louisa street, entertained Air Gordon Bryan after his pianoforte recital last Saturday evening. Others present were: Mr and Mrs L. B. Rowe, Mesdames F. D. Morrah, J. T. Prain, C. H. Roberts, E. W. Howorth, T. S. Tomlinson and Miss Valerie Rowe.

On Wednesday evening the staff and agents of the A.M.P. Society met in the Federal Lounge to farewell Miss Eileen Brown who has severed her connection with the office on account of her approaching marriage which takes place next Wednesday. Those present, in addition to the guest of honour, were: —Mr and Mrs W. R. J. Smythe, Miss C. M. D. Cox, Messrs S. R. Sutherland, D. Ross, C. J. Dey, C. M. King, H. S. Betty, A. H. Ryder, H. S. Cumberworth and A. G. Henderson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs M. Fitzgerald, A. J. Scott, W. D. F. King (Gore), W. D. Cowie, W. A. Edwards and A. C. Tansley (Invercargill.) Mr Smythe occupied the chair and at a suitable interval made the presentation to the guest of the evening of a handsome canteen of cutlery and wished her every happiness in the future. Mr Sutherland replied on behalf of Miss Brown, who for the past three months has been on special leave. During the evening songs were given by Messrs Ross and Betty, and a recitation by Mr Henderson. Community singing was also indulged in, and two competitions were won by Messrs Cumberworth and Ryder. The accompaniments were played by Miss Cox. Mottram, Miss Betty Mottram and Mrs J. Periam motored through to Christchurch on Thursday, breaking their journey at Timaru. Mrs Periam will later visit Auckland.

Mrs J. Macleod and her mother, Mrs Cossens, were joint hostesses at a delightful party on Wednesday afternoon at the Brown Owl Roof Gardens, the guests of honour being Mrs Richard Rowe (Adelaide) and Miss Doris Webb (New Plymouth). Part of the gardens were specially screened off for the occasion, and formed a delightful setting for a very pleasant afternoon. There were over thirty guests pre sent.

On Monday morning a number of young people motored out to Morven, where Mrs T. Menzies Watson was hostess at a luncheon in honour of Miss Kitty Wilson. Those present were: Mesdames G. St. V. Keddell, W. E. Hunt (Waitoru), A. E. F. Wilding (Wilanda Downs) ; Misses Kitty and Shelagh Wilson, L. F. Watson, Nora Hore (Christchurch), Peggy Snow, Audrey Abbey Jones, Nancy Strettell, Kathleen Anderson, Marjorie Todd, Mary Langford (Nightcaps) and Bessie and Molly McGregor (Mt. Linton). The New Zealand News announces that on September 26 a reunion was held at Kilburn, North-West London, of old girls from the overseas schools of the Sisters of the Church. A number of former New Zealanders attended. Those from St. Hilda’s College, Dunedin, were: —The Lady Nina Knowles, Lady Caroline Ogilvie Grant, Mrs C. H. Mitchell (M. Langford), Mrs Rose (P. Laing), Mrs Sandwith (D. H. Buckley), Mrs Holt (A. Jennings), Mrs Keeble (F. Small), the Misses G. Ponsonby, C. McGowan, G. Orlebar, G. Clarkson, M. Holloway and S. Nevill, Miss Raine (a former member of the staff), and Mrs Holloway (a parent). From the St. Margaret’s, Christchurch, were: —Misses H. Cane, M. Raymond and B. Clayden; also ex-pupils from St. Michael’s, Melbourne, Pert College, St. Peter’s Girls’ School, Adelaide, and the Collegiate School, Hobart. The Rev Mother and Sisters who had worked in New Zealand or had visited the Dominion welcomed their guests, and showed them over the large orphanage, embroidery room, studio and the beautiful chapel.

On Thursday, December 10, Mr and Mrs William Stott, senior, of 78 William street, South Invercargill, entertained about ninety friends at the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Tay street, to celebrate the cotning-of-age of their grandson, John Freeman. The evening was spent in games and dancing. Items were given by Mr P. Marko, Mr J. Freeman, humorous recitations by Mr J. Gilchrist and bagpipe selections by Mr K. McLeod. About 11.30 the party adjourned to the next room where supper was set. In mak ing a presentation of the golden key which was tied with streamers of the Boating Club colours, Mr Jenkins spoke highly of the recipient. Miss R. Stott was called upon to cut the cake. The enjoyable gathering was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
