The second Test match between Australia and South Africa commenced on the Sydney Cricket Ground to-day. The weather was fine and cool and the wicket perfect. Steyn The South Africans won the toss, but quickly lost any advantage that might have been gained from that factor when five good wickets fell before lunch for 62. Thrill followed thrill in the period before lunch. Mitchell, before he had scored, was dropped by Rigg off McCabe, but McCabe, with a low in-swinger, got him in the next over. Christy, when four, was missed by Oldfield off Wall. Grimmett, bowling excellently, had had Christy ami Morkel tied up and eventually dismissed them. His figures were two wickets for four runs off five overs, which included four maidens. He made them three for 9 when he worried Taylor out.
