GIANT LINER
WORK MAY BE RESUMED. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, December 16. The directors of the Cunard Steamship Company considered in private the recent decision to suspend work on the giant liner. The chairman reported that he had received no request to meet the Government and for the moment there was no fresh news. Subsequent to the meeting of the directors an official stated that work on the liner was certainly being resumed even if the Government did not help. It is reported that work will be resumed early in the New Year. Mr Frank Smith, secretary of the Federation of Engineering and Shipbuilding Trades, says the prospects are now definitely brighter. WORK ON FRENCH VESSEL. Paris, December 16. The Compaignie Trans-Atlantique intends to continue building the super liner He de France. The Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved of the Government’s proposals for increased financial assistance, including additional remuneration for mail services.
