RATIONS CURTAILED

RELIEF WORKERS.

PROTEST TO MINISTER

(Per United Press Association.)

Wellington, December 16.

Replying to a deputation representing the relief ■workers’ section of the General Labourers’ Union with reference to the curtailment of rations by a charitable aid board, the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, said the problem had grown so big that it had got beyond the social relief agencies of , the hospital. It was affecting people whom there was no doubt the original hospital relief measures were never designed for. Apart from the question of getting over the Christmas period, the whole problem would have to be dealt with along lines which would give a wider and more comprehensive measure of relief. It seemed that all the agencies would have to come togethe.r to avoid overlapping. Cabinet had been considering the position and he hoped before long that something would be evolved to put the whole matter on a better basis.
