A FATAL SKID
WOMAN KILLED CAR HITS TELEGRAPH POLE MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, December 16. A sudden swerve off the bitumen surface on the Main South Road at Riccarton (East Taieri) followed by a skid in loose shingle at the tide of the road resulted this morning in the death of Mrs Ada Berry who was killed outright when a light four cylinder car crashed broadside into a telegraph pole. The driver of the car, David Hannah, was picked up unconscious and conveyed to the Dunedin Hospital. Hannah and Mrs Berry left Invercargill at 6 a.m. far Dunedin and the accident occurred about 11 a.m. The car apparently swerved from ihe middle of the road to the gravel at the side and then skidded into a post. The unfortunate woman must have received the full force of the impact for her head was completely crushed. Hannah suffered severe head injuries.
The injured man is about 30 years of age but. very little information could be gleaned about him to-night. It is understood he comes from somewhere in the North Island ' and for some time past has been cn the West Coast. Mrs Berry at one time was a resident of Hastings.
