BRITISH WARES
FRENCH MARKETS FLOODED. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) Paris, December 15. Thousands of French children will receive Christmas presents stamped "Made in Britain" instead of the familiar "Made in Germany.” The French markets are flooded with British wares in consequence of the depreciation of the pound. A 15 per cent, surtax has been quite insufficient to keep them out. Contrariwise French manufacturers of luxury novelty articles and cosmetics cannot compete owing to Britain’s new import duties. France will close the year with the biggest adverse trade balance in her history. FRENCH EXPORTS DECLINE. London, December 15. As further proof of the universality of the trade slump, French exports since January 1 total only £322,000,000, a decline of one-third compared with last year, while Germany's November figures are £9,000,000 below November of 1930.
