WAR FUNDS

SOUTHLAND ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Main Committee was held in the Association Rooms on Monday. Present: Messrs J. Gilkison, H. J. Farrant, T. Pryde (Invercargill), Rev. J. Chisholm (R.S.A., Invercargill), A H. Cockburn (Mataura), D. McDonald (Limehills), J. S. A. McDougall (Bluff), C. Bennet (Gore), J. A. Stirling (Waimahaka), F. M. Murray (R.S.A., Gore). Dan Macpherson (Waianiwa), and H. E. Niven (Edendale). Mr J. Gilkison presided. An approximate statement of the financial position showed: —lnvestments, £24,700; outstanding advances £4,107 0/10; on current account £4BO 13/-. Receipts since last meeting, 16-11-31 : donation N. £100; interest £7 18/10; refunds £l2l 10/11, totalling £229 9/9. Expenditure over same period: Relief Grants £348 10/5; advances £lO9 17/6; rent £5 8/4; stationery £1 16/-; travelling expenses £5 17/6; general expenses £49 13/0; totalling £521 2/9; excess of expenditure over receipts, £291 13/0.

Several of the Returned Soldiers’ Associations applied for subsides which were considered and various amounts voted for that purpose.

The report of the Emergency Committee was reviewed and referred cases disposed of. A number of new applications for relief were considered and dealt with.

In closing the meeting the chairman extended the season’s greetings to members, who reciprocated in kind.
