SPECIAL AWARDS. SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITORS. The list of special awards gained by exhibitors at the Southland Metropolitan A. and P. Association’s Summer Show has now been made available. Successful exhibitors were:— Bonus prize of £4O, donated by the trustees in the estate of the late Reginald MacKinnon, and subsidized to the extent of 25 per cent, by the association, for stock imported or bred elsewhere than in New Zealand by the exhibitor —J. J. Blakie, Ryal Bush, with the Ayrshire bull Ulysses Royal Laird. The H. and J. Smith 100 guinea cup, for the most points in the cattle, sheep, and horse section. To be retained by exhibitor w-ith greatest total at end of ten years —W. Kennedy, Bayswater. (Won in 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929, and 1930 by Mr Kennedy also.) CATTLE. Canterbury Perpetual Challenge Cup, presented by Canterbury visitors, March, 1928, for most points in dairy cattle—Mr A. SI. Weir, Menzies Ferry. (Won also in 1929 and 1930 by Mr A. M. Weir). Wright, Stephenson and Company’s Cup for beef cattle section, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn breeds, to be awarded to the winner of most points in the breeds named. To be won three times not necessarily in succession—J. A. Johnstone, Palmerston South. (Won also by Mr Johnstone in 1929 and 1930). MILKING SHORTHORNS. Southland Branch of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association’s prize of £3 for most points in the male section — D. Murphy, Kennington. Southland Branch of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association’s prize of £2 for most points in the female section —J. Bateman, Invercargill. ■ The Sir Joseph Ward trophy valued at £5 5/- for the two best yearling heifers, with best butterfat backing, trophy to be won three times not necessarily in succession—J. Bateman. (Won in 1928 by J. Bateman and in 1929 by F. Bradfield. In 1930 there was no competition).

RED POLL. Southland Red Poll Cup valued at £lO 10/- given by the Red Poll Breeders’ Association for the champion bull. To be won three times not necessarily in succession—G. S. Young, West Plains. (Won in 1930 also by G. S. Young). FRIESIAN. Mr James C. Milne’s trophy valued at £5 5/-, a special prize for a cow in milk or dry with production certificate up to the standard set for the class.
