THE W.E.A.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Workers’ Educational Association was held in Everybody’s last evening a small attendance being present. The annual report, which was presented by the secretary, Mr S. G. August, stated: “During the past year classes have been carried on in literature and drama at Invercargill, Woodlands, Browns, and Wyndham. Attendances have been good, and the students showed enthusiastic interest. Air J. Stobo had a class in civics at the Borstal Institution and this was well attended and great interest was shown. Although finance was backward the general interest in the classes was not affected and although some curtailments had to be made the W.E.A. did remarkably well, the reportcontinued. There was no indication of what the position would be during the coming year, but it appeared that it would be just as well to keep the movement going on the same lines. The report was adopted.

The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: —President, Mr J. J. W. Pollard; vice-presidents, Messrs C. G. L. Pollock and I. L. Petrie; auditor, Mr R. H. Osborne; committee, Miss Erskine, Mesdames Dudman and Pollock, Messrs A. L. Whelham, H. P. Campbell and J. E. Gordon; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. G. August. The question of arranging a syllabus for the coming season was discussed and it was left to the president and secretary to make the necessary arrangements.
