Mrs W. Clark junr. and- her daughter Heather, New River Road, spent a few days at Dipton recently. Miss Thelma Young, Park street, was the recent guest of her sister, Mrs A. Forbes, Lochiel. Miss Dorothy Sutton, ‘The Willows,” Otapiri, returned from Central Otago during the week. Miss Phyllis Shand, of Invercargill, who has been staying with Mrs R. Miss Molly Thomson, of Invercargill, was the guest of Miss Isobel Shand, Great North Road, during the week. Mr and Mrs E. Lea, of Ocean Beach, were recent guests of Mr and Mrs V. J. Lea, Park street. Miss Sarita Fairbanks, of Tussock Creek, was the guest of Miss Isobel Lindsay, Park street, last week. Miss Heinie Cowie has been visiting her aunt, Mrs J. McDonald, Waikiwi. . Mr and Mra W. Young, Mossbum, were visitors to Winton during the week. lyiss E. Green, of Invercargill, has been holidaying at Hokonui. Mrs W. Strang and her daughter Peggy and Master A. McKenzie, of Invercargill, visited Mrs W. J. Cowie, of Centre Bush, during the week-end. Mrs W. Halliday, of Invercargill, spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs W. Hamilton, Park street. Plunket Society. At the monthly meeting of the Winton Plunket Society last Saturday afternoon the president, Mrs J. A. Broom, occupied the chair in the presence of the following members: Mesdames J. Walsh, D. O’Malley, J. G. Manson, Bryce, Matheson, J. T. May and P. Bradley. It was reported that the stall at the Winton A. and P. Society’s annual show proved successful and the society desired to thank all those who responded so willingly to their request, and also the Boy Scouts for their valuable assistance. The nurse's report for August and September read as follows: Attendance at rooms, adults 66, babies 62, older children 10; total number of visits paid to homes 11; new cases 2. Health good. The nurse will be in attendance during Christmas week. W.D.F.U. The monthly meeting of the Winton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday last when the president, Mrs T. S. Smith, presided over a good attendance of members. It was proposed to sent a letter to the Minister of Health protesting against the. rise in the fees of St. Helens Hospital. This protest is also to be sent as a remit to the Dominion executive meeting at Auckland next month. A comprehensive report of the monthly meeting of the Provincial Executive at Invercargill recently was given by Mra J. H. Thomson. The branch proved willing, if called upon, to contribute £1 towards the fund to enable delegates from a long distance to attend the Provincial Executive meetings. Arrangements were made to hold a picnic on January 20 and it was agreed to apply to the Winton Jockey Club for permission to use the racecourse for this purpose. Welcome Home. On Friday evening last the Forest Hill hall presented a scene of gaiety when a dance was held as a welcome home to Mr and Mrs D. Malcolm, who were recently married. The Sacred Heart Church, Centre Bush, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Wednesday, November 25, when Mary Margaret Cecelia, second eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs P. McGrath, of Centre Bush, was married to John, second eldest son of Mr and Mrs T. Cosgrove, Winton. The church was decorated with flowers. The Rev. Father O’Neill officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. The Children of Mary formed a guard of honour for the bride and Miss Nora O’Connor, of Wreys Bush, presided at the organ. The bride, given away by her father, wore an ankle length flared frock of ivory satin beaute with close-fitting bodice and long sleeves, with an Eton coatee of Chantilly lace. Her veil of embroidered tulle arranged in coronet fashion with orange blossoms formed a short train, and she carried a bouquet of cream roses and maiden-hair fern. The bridesmaids, Misses Eileen and Madeline McGrath (sisters of the bride) wore ankle length frocks of shell pink and Erin green georgette respectively, and carried bouquets of pink and cream roses. Miss Doreen McGrath acted as flower girl, wearing a frock of lemon georgette with a cap of the same shade, trimmed with pink and white daisies and pink ribbon. She, too, carried a bouquet of cream roses. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Jack McCarthy as best man, while Mr Desmond McGrath was groomsman. After the ceremony about forty guests motored to Winton, where the breakfast was held in the Radio Tea Rooms. Mrs McGrath, who received her guests, wore a navy silk marocain frock with hat to tone. The Rev. Father O'Neill presided. Later the newlywedded couple left by car for the north, the bride wearing a navy barathea costume with hat and shoes to tone. She carried a navy coat with musquash collar and cuffs. Prior to the wedding Miss McGrath was entertained by friends at a gift evening, when she was the recipient of many valuable and useful gifts.
