MATAURA NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) Mr Robert Hutton, accompanied by Mrs Hutton and daughter, who have been in Christchurch for their annual holiday returned to Mataura by Monday's express. Mr J. J. Griffiths left by the through express on Tuesday morning en route to Wellington and Wanganui where he will spend his annual holiday. A pleasant function took place at the N.Z. Paper Mills on Monday evening when members of the staff foregathered to meet Miss Myrtle Alderson (who was married on Wednesday) and presented her with a token of esteem in honour of’ the event. In a happy speech Mr H. Walton expressed the best wishes of her fellow work-mates for her prosperity and happiness in her married life and congratulated her on the step she was about to take. Several other gentlemen added their words of congratulations and good wishes to the departing guest, after which Miss Alderson modestly replied heartily thanking them for the words and handsome gifts. From the s.s. Port Huon at present discharging at Bluff the local paper mills are receiving into stock 500 tons of wood pulp for replenishing of stocks. The weather conditions during the last few days have been in striking contrast to those of last week when beautiful sunny weather prevailed. At intervals on Wednesday slight sleet showers fell and it was to be observed in the early morning that the ranges had received a liberal coating which however did not lie. The. fortnightly meeting of the Mataura Rebecca Lodge was held in the Oddfellows Hall, Mataura, on Tuesday evening last when N.G. Sister N. Sinclair presided over a good attendance of members. Various correspondence was received and dealt with and other routine business transacted after which a social hour was spent. ..
