EASTERN SOUTHLAND SUB-UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The executive of the Eastern District Rugby Sub-Union met at Gore last evening, Mr J. W. Aitken (chairman) presiding. ■ The Southland Union advised that as a result of a protest from it had decided to alter the date of the Sports Trust Cup match to August B.—This date was approved. The Albion Club advised the withdrawal of its third grade team from the competition. It was decided to write to the West Otago Sub-Union suggesting a game at Gore on as early a date as possible. It was decided to write to the South Otago Sub-Union inquiring whether, if helped financially, it would be’able to send a team to Gore. Messrs W. Forbes, W. Leith and I, Martin were appointed selectors for the junior representative team. It was decided that one coach for each of the first, second and third grade teams be granted free season passes. The question of continuing the Wallis Shield competition during the absence of the Southland representative team on tour was discussed, and it was suggested that, as one club was likely to be seriously affected the competition should be suspended and the cup matches proceeded with. It was decided that in the event of two or more players from any one team being selected for the Southland touring team to suspend the shield competitions and play the Eastern Cup fixtures. It was resolved that all matches be postponed on July 1 on account of the South-land-Otago match at Invercargill. It was decided to play three rounds in the second grade competition and to close the third grade competition at the end of the second round, when the Wallis Cup competition would be commenced. It was also decided to play three rounds in the fourth grade competition. The referee in the Albion-Mataura second grade match on June 17 reported having to caution Lloyd for striking an Albion player. After hearing the evidence it was decided to stand Lloyd down for one playing Wednesday. The following fixtures for the remainder of the second round of the third grade competition were approved:— July 8: Pioneer v. Seaward Downs, Gore No. 3; High School v. Mataura, Gore No. 3.
