ENCKE’S COMET

REDISCOVERY ANNOUNCED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 24. The New Zealand Astronomical Society has received a cable from the International Astronomical Union, Copenhagen, announcing the rediscovery of Encke’s comet. This is a short period comet of about 31 years. On this occasion it was discovered about June 22 when it was relatively bright, being of the ninth magnitude. Its right, ascension at the time of its discovery on June 22 was 7 hours 35 minutes. Its north declination was 8 degrees 22 minutes. It was travelling south and east and is near the star Procyon. On June 22 it was about two degree, north of that star. The comet is now getting into good position for observation in the Southern Hemisphere.
