The Department of Agriculture has announced that the gravity of the situation confronting the American farmer in endeavouring to dispose of his produce abroad is emphasized by the fact that the exports of the principal agricultural products have dropped 408,195,000 dollars in the first few months of the current fiscal year. Dominant features of the export trade were drastic reductions in the exports of wheatand flour, the report said. The wheat and grain exports for February were only 137,000 bushels, the lowest total for a month since June, 1905. During the eight months ended February 28, 1931, only 56,807,000 bushels of wheat were exported with a value of 51,582,000 dollars compared with the previous similar eight months when 73,212,000 bushels were exported valued at 93,983,000 dollars.
