BLUFF NOTES

(From Our Correspondent)

Mr and Mrs F. Boyland and family, Dunedin, have been spending a few days in Bluff as the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Tait, Spencer Street. They leave for their home to-day. Mr Olaf Wiig, Stewart Island, spent the Easter holidays with his parents, Mr and Mrs M. E. Wiig, Parrette Street. Mr and Mrs J. McDowall and family returned at the week end to Te Motu Mute after a visit to Mrs McDowall’s mother, Mrs D. Duff, Gore Street. There was another good attendance at the Bluff Fire Brigade’s weekly euchre tournament on Saturday night. The games, which were controlled by Mr W. Gilson, were keenly contested, a play off being necessary in each division. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs W. Robinson 1, Mrs W. Doyle 2; men, L. Mortimer 1, L. Simpson 2.

A sporting fixture set down for to-day (Tuesday) is the annual cricket match between teams representing Messrs J. G. Ward and Co. Ltd. (Invercargill) and Ocean Beach Freezing Works. The game will be played on the Bluff Cricket Club’s ground, and will start at 10.30 a.m. The local club lent its material for the occasion, an action which is appreciated by the rival teams. There will be several senior and ex-senior players in the sides, and quite a lot of interest is being shown in the event, the winning of which will carry with it a handsome shield. This is a new trophy, and today’s games will be the first contest for its possession. ____________
