HONG KONG CURRENCY

INQUIRY BY COMMISSION

(British Official Wireless.)

(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, February 25. Dr. Drummond Shiels, Colonial Undersecretary, stated in the House of Commons to-day that a mission was proceeding to Hong Kong to inquire into the currency question. It would consist of Mr Clegg, Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, Mr Ezechiel, one of the Crown agents for the colonies, and Mr Clauson, of the Colonial Office. The last two would sail to-morrow, Mr Clegg joining them at Singapore. The commission would report to the Colonial Secretary, but action would not be taken upon the recommendations until the Hong Kong Government had been further consulted. Other interests would be consulted if it were desirable.
