WYNDHAM SCHOOL
JUBILEE COMMITTEE. (From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the Wyndham School Jubilee Committee was held on Tuesday evening, the following being present: Mesdames A. H. Jones, H. Hunter, R. G. Carson, W. Scott, S. Shaw, N. McEwan senr., M. Heath, Porter, Misses A. Bogue, N. McEwan, P. Winn, B. McLauchlan (secretary), Messrs G. D. Falconer, F. Bogue, A. Wilson, D. Macpherson, F. Milne, J. Y'oung, W. O. C. McKay, J. Stirling, 11. Hayes, A. T. Ross, A. 11. Jones and F. Bogue. The secretary read a letter from the president of the association, Mr R. Richardson, tendering his resignation owing to unforsecn circumstances. It was resolved that Mr A. H. Jones be appointed to fill the vacany, and that Mr Richardson’s resignation be accepted with regret. As a mark of esteem to the memory of the late Mr G. Richardson (who was secretary of the association) all present stood in silence. The secretary advised that so far the enrolments to date were as follows: Decade one, T 6; decade two 56; decade three, 67; decade four 49; decade five, 71; decade six, 62; honorary members, 5; teachers, 3, total, 339. The secretary reported that the railway authorities had been written to by the late secretary in reference to railway warrants, and had received permission to issue same. However, it was now necessary to apply for a new authority in her name. The secretary advised that the hall had been booked for two nights during the jubilee, and that the Pipe Band had signified its willingness to play on the day of the sports. It was resolved that the matter of approaching the various business people in regard to having the shops closed for a few hours on the Saturday (sports day) was left in the hands of Mr McKay. The church service was discussed at length, and it was finally decided to hold it on Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. The chairman of the dance committee (Mr H. Hayes) reported in regard to this function, and asked permission to change the dance from the Saturday evening to the Friday evening after the concert. Permission was granted. The various details in regards to the official opening of the jubilee were left in the hands of the executive to attend to. It was decided that the members of the Southland Education Board and the member for the district be invited to be present at the jubilee.
