ROTORUA HOSPITALS

STANDARD TO BE RAISED. UP-TO-DATE SANATORIUM. (For United Press Association.) Auckland, December 17. As soon as finance is available action will be taken to combine the hospital and allied services at Rotorua, said the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy) when outlining the reasons for closing the orthopaedic section of King George V. Hospital. Rotorua, being practically a tourist base, should have hospital facilities of an appropriate standard and a scheme had been approved under which an up-to-date sanatorium was to be built. Rotorua, under proper tourist conditions, with hydrotherapy, special baths, etc., was one place where a properly lun institution should be self-supporting. The King George Hospital would not be closed and it was not proposed to close the orthopaedic section summarily. The children would remain until treatment was completed while others would be transferred to the hospitals in their own 'districts and some would return home.
