BLUFF NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) The annual break-up and prize-giving in St. Matthew’s Church of England Sunday School took place on Sunday afternoon last. A very large congregation gathered, the church being full. The Rev. \V. IV. Ewart, after devotional exercises, expressed his pleasure at seeing so many assembled for the break-up ceremony. He warmly thanked those present for their attendance and interest. During the year he, as superintendent; of the Sunday School, had found that not only had the children attended well, but that they had taken a deep interest in the Scripture lessons and. as vicar, he wished to congratulate the teachers on their splendid work for the children and for the, church. The Rev. Mr Ewart also thanked those who had given prizes or donated money towards the prize funds, and on behalf of the church specially .mentioned the good work of Miss A. Barnett in collecting subscriptions. A feature of the service was the singing by the Sunday School children of hymns suitable to the occasion. Miss A. Ewart presided at the organ. The vicar called upon Mr C. Romans to present the prizes. In an interesting and instructive address Mr Romans stressed the fact that the town was fortunate in having a fine Church of England Sundaj’ School under the supervision of highly capable teachers. He urged the Bible Class girls and boys to continue attending, and not to get the idea that they were too old to attend the classes. The Sunday School was a splendid means of building up character; and as the scholars grew older they would look back on their Sunday School life with pleasure and gratitude. Mr Romans then distributed the prizes. Christmas services will be held in St. Matthew’s next Sunday. At evensong special carol anthems will be sung. Miss D. Lovett will act as organist, and the full choir will be under the. conductorship of Mr E. A. Nichol,
