GORE CONVENT

BREAK-UP CEREMONY. The Gore Convent School held its annual break-up ceremony in the school grounds yesterday afternoon when there was an excellent, attendance of parents present to join in the function. The prizes, as published, were presented by the Rev. Father O'Dea, who congratulated the pupils upon the attention paid to their work during the year. He also expressed the hope that the holiday period would be a happy one for them and that they would come back ready to commence the new school year. Father O'Dea also presented the home science medal to the winner, Miss C. McGoldrick, and congratulated her upon having been the most successful pupil attending the home science course from all the local schools.

The Mayor, Mr D. L. Poppelwell, also gave an interesting address and paid a tribute to the great interest, taken in the children by the Sisters of Mercy. After the formal part of the function was concluded, a most enjoyable sports gathering was held at which prizes were awarded to the successful competitors. Several of the events, including the slow bicycle race and the egg and spoon race, created a ..good deal of amusement and added to the pleasure of the occasion. Sweets were also distributed to the children for whom the function was a most happy one.
