MINISTERIAL. The Hon. A. J. Murdoch, Minister of Agriculture, arrived by the express last evening. He will officially open the Show to-day. The acting Prime Minister (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) was to have returned to Wellington yesterday, but on reaching Palmerston North yesterday morning he received advice of the death of Mrs Ransom’s mother and it became necessary for him to return to Dannevirke. Mr Ransom will probably return to Wellington on Thursday. Mr Stanley Smith, manager of the Evening Star, Dunedin, was among the visitors to tho Show yesterday. Dr. It. 11. Hogg leaves Invercargill this afternoon for Dunedin to attend the annual meeting of the College of Surgeons of Australasia to be held in that city on Friday. Mr E. M. North, one of the partners in Messrs North and Sons, noted Friesian breeders of “Rosevalc,” Omimi, Otago, is visiting the local Show and returns north to-day. A Press Association message from Fremantle states that among the passengers by the Otranto, which arrived there yesterday, is Miss Gladys Watkins, who has been abroad studying Carillon playing. Mr W. J. Wesney, of Otautau, who as chairman of the Otautau Town Board attended the last meeting of the Municipal Association executive in Wellington, returned to Invercargill by the express last evening. Sir John McFarland and Dr. Littlejohn leave Sydney on December 19 and are expected to reach Dipton by Christmas Day. They will make Dipton their headquarters for fishing and will be joined by the Rev. Macrae Stewart on January 5. Mr A. E. Mander, Dominion general secretary of the Reform Party, was asked by a large deputation that he allow himself to be nominated for the Otaki electorate. Mr Mander expressed thanks and said that he would not drcam of opposing Mr W. H. Field, the sitting member. If, at any time, Mr Field did not wish to stand again, Mr Mander would allow his name to be put in for selection by a conference of Reformers in the electorate.

Lord Barnby arrived in Wellington on Monday night and left by the ferry steamer for Christchurch, according to a message received by the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle. His Lordship was to leave Christchurch yesterday for Dunedin and will inspect the Waitaki Boys’ High School and the Waitaki Power Station. He will spend to-day in Dunedin and will return to Christchurch, to-morrow in connection with the wool sales to be held there. He expressed regret at not being able to visit Southland.
