Ways of Cushions

(From Our Correspondent)

London

No matter how simply your little 5..tingroom is furnished, you can have striking and gay curtain and cushion ettccts. 1 saw such a charming idea worked on in a model house the other day, and i struck me that it was one which would appeal to the housewile who had very fev. pennies to spend on her house and w.io, tithe same time, liked things to look mce. In the lounge tnere were curtains 01 Bohon sheeting in a warm shade of hone, beige ’—you know the colour 1 mean, don , you? It looks as ii it had sunshine wove.. into it, so that even on the dullest day the;, is a suggestion of absent King Sol at you; windows. Un these curtains there were three striper, one each of lily green, orange, and snu.. brown, and these stripes were achieved by ordinary cotton furnishing webbing, puichasabie nowadays in a range of, lovely co.ours at a few pence per yard. These wen. placed horizontally. At a instance ot about .six inches from the vertical edges whit** meet when the curtains are putted, then were three stripes again, of varying lcng.li. running parallel with the edge finishing u.. at unoven length. On the settee and armchairs there were oblong and square cushions of the same material, bound at the edges with one or the other coloured webbings and decorated with the three stripes of varying length lo match the curtains. Just try it!

You might even use the idea for a renovation. It would look quite wonderful ot. those rather tired casement cloth ones you were just beginning to despair of, or evei on slub silk. Webbing is very accommodating.
