BALFOUR NOTES

A meeting ’of ladies interested in the formation of a branch of the Girl Guide Association .at Balfpur was held in the hall last Friday. The following ladies attended: Mesdumes George, Church, R. Grant, D. McDonald, Flood, Condon, Whiteley, WiLson, Lynch, Poppclwell, Scobie and W. Orr, Misses, B. Grant and West. Mrs Clduston, of Lumsden, District Commissioner, - addressed -the , meeting, tracing the history of ■ the Girl Guide movement from its origin: in 1909 with 29 guides and six lieutenants to ' the present day, when the movement was world-wide. She explained the benefits girls received in the training and association with other companions, the laws, and promise and the duties of officers and. the ladies’ committee, dress for girls, cost, etc., and how the girls earn money, to buy their own dress and secure, their expenses. The meeting 'unanimously decided to form a’ local association. The first meeting will be held in the near future to enrol the girls and elect- the officers and ' a president. Mesdames R. Grant and. D. McDonald were elected vicepresidents, Mesdames W. Orr and Church joint-- secretaries, and the comffiittee is Mesdames Lynch, Poppelwell, R. I. Wilson, Scobie, Condon, Hood and George. The captain is Miss B; Grant, the Brown Owl Mrs Whiteley and the Tawny Owl Miss West. 1 Mrs Clouston was accorded a vote of thanks for her excellent address.
