COMMENT ON APPOINTMENT. SIR ISAAC ISAACS’ ABILITY. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright) London, December 7. City comment concerning Sir Isaac Isaacs thus far has been confined to expressions of relief that a man of such extreme ability and unquestionable impartiality has been selected. Share quotations have not been affected, rnd some brokers believe the appointment tends to counteract, rather than otherwise, the depressing effect of the publication of the reduced Australian revenue returns. The Economist, referring to Press apprehension, says the Governorship has become a reward for political services and says that future Governors-General may be drawn not. only from Australians but. from distinguished persons throughout the Empire. The Economist does not doubt that future Premiers’ selections will be guided by the success or failure of the present cxperi ment. The Sunday News understands that there is a strong possibility that Sir Isaac Isaacs will be raised to the peerage. QUESTION OF PEERAGE. (Rec. 12.35 a.m.) Sydney, December IS.
