IMPORTED DYESTUFFS
REMOVAL OF BRITISH DUTIES. EXPLANATION BY MR GRAHAM. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, December 7. Regarding the Government’s decision to allow the Dyestuffs Act to lapse, thus removing the import duties on imported dyestuffs, Mr William Graham, President of the Board of Trade, said the textile industries were employing from 750,000 to 1,000,000 compared with 7000 to 8000 in the dye industry. The industry had represented to the Government the restricting effects of the Act which had handicapped it. He was convinced that a policy of fiscal freedom on balance was better and safer for a griat exporting country. Mr Graham expressed the opinion that the opening months of the New Year would see a steady but slow reduction of unemployment.
