VAGRANT VERSE
RUMOUR. Spring is a rumour The swelling buds spread. The sparrows gossip of it; Their twitterings are sped Like old wives gabble, ■With low-voiced bickering, Spring out of winter — Summer out of spring. Spring is a rumour Like water in a run. Slowly it starts, Drop by drop in the sun— Until, from a rumour, It, sets leaves a-shecn, And sweeps through the valley, A flood of new green. —Helen Mating.
