Mr P. C. Gray, Dunedin, arrived in Gore by yesterday morning's express. Mr and Mrs G. Bishop, Gore, left by the Maheno from Bluff yesterday on a two months’ visit to Australia. Miss Flora Macdonald, at present an assistant at the Nightcaps School,-has been appointed to a similar position at the Tuatapere School. The Rev. A. N. Scotter, 8.A., of Christchurch, president of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, arrived in Invercargill by yesterday’s mid-day express. Mr W. D. Lambie, who for the past six years has acted-as assistant to and deputy for his Majesty’s .Trade Commissioner in Wellington, has received cabled instructions from London transferring him on promotion to Winnipeg, where he will be Officer-in-charge. Mr Lambie expects to leave New Zealand on November 18, states a Wellington Press Association message. There are several changes pending in the personnel of the Gore Railway Station staff. Mr W. J. Smith, who has been ■ stationmaster at Gore for five years, will retire on superannuation after 40 years’ service. The public of Gore will regret losing the services of such a capable officer as Mr Smith has proved to be. Mr V. Barraclough (traffic clerk) who has been stationed at Wyndham for some months, returns to Gore in about a months time. There arc also other changes. A Nelson Press Association message states that the death has occurred at the age of 74 years of Mr Janies Allan, one of the pioneers of the fruit industry in the Tasman district. Mr Allan, who was born at Mosgiel, was a farmer and apiarist in the south until 14 years ago, when he transferred from Wyndham to Tasman, where he established an apple orchard. Since engaging in apple growing Mr Allan has taken great interest in the growth of the industry, taking a leading part for many years in all growers’ organizations.
