APPLICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE.
OTAGO PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

Dunedin, October 20.
That there had been a very large increase in the number of applications to the Otago Patriotic Association for assistance was made clear at the half-yearly meeting today when it was announced that £2144 had been expended in assisting 593 persons in the last six months. It was stated that the association found that the fact of ex-soldiers being out of work for a considerable time had a very bad effect on their health and many were breaking up. A motion was carried coihmending the Government for what, had been done to give effect to the Rehabilitation Committee recommendations and expressing the hope that all these would be 'made effective as circumstances permitted.
