WAIPOUNAMU NOTES

The weather for the past few days has allowed farm operations to proceed unhindered. The chief occupation at present is the sowing of oats. The grass is coming away very well and a large number of lambs are to be seen in the district, the lambing season now being general. As yet, no good bags of fish have been reported, although the Mataura and Waikaia rivers are now in good order. Heavy, warm rains about a fortnight ago caused the snow on the high country to thaw, with the result that both rivers were in flood. The recent raising of the road between the two bridges on the main road to Riversdale proved effective, although the water did not cut in there as much as usual, probably due to the construction of a dam higher up on the river.

Mrs J. Tayles left on Monday for Dunedin, where she is spending her holidays. Mrs Simpson, who had been the guest of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs A. McAllan, returned to Gore recently.
