TRAMPING CLUB
ORGANIZATION FORMED.* Most forms of sport are enjoyed in Invercargill, but never before has there been a public movement in the direction of furthering thaffiof tramping* However, a well attended -meeting in the Y.M.C.A. last evening decided to form a local organization to be called the “Southland Tramping Club.” The meeting was most enthusiastic, between 30 and 40 members being enrolled. Office-bearers were elected as follows: President, Mr Charles Clark; vice-presidents, Mrs A. J. Deaker, Misses G. Basstian and V. Roscoe and Messrs R. M. Strang, A. Hamilton and H. G. Sutton; secretary and treasurer, Mr 0. C. Joyce; committee, Misses M. Burdon, P. Macpherson, M. Waterson and E. Mehaffey and Messrs R. J. Wilkes, K. R. Reed, J. Cruickshank and W. Bailey. The club decided to stage its initial tramp to Oreti Sands over the week-end. In a short address to the members, Mr Clark said that although the success of the club seemed apparent, it was nevertheless extremely desirable that still many more trampers should join up. The subscription was by no means prohibitive, being only 3/-, and he urged those wishing to take up the sport to communicate with the secretary, Mr 0. C. Joyce, Box 259, Invercargill, as soon as possible.
