Mr John McCrostie is on a holiday visit to Central. Otago. Mr D. M. Scandrett was a passenger for Dunedin by the. express yesterday. Dr J. Blakie, of Melbourne, arrived by the Maheno yesterday on a visit to Southland. His many friends will be pleased to learn that Mr H." McCorkindale, of Gore, has now recovered from his recent illness, and has resumed business. 1 Mr D. McDougall, M.P., arrived at Gore by the express train on Saturday night. He returned north by the night train on Sunday. Mr P. R. Stewart, of Milton, arrived in Gore yesterday by express train. Mr Stewart will take up a position with Messrs Mac Gibbon and Co. Mr L. B. Macdonald, of Dunedin, pro-, visional president of the New Zealand Radio Listeners’ League, arrived 'in Invercargill by the express yesterday. The Rev. N. Burgess, who for the past five and a-half years has been minister in charge of the Congregational Church, Gore, has accepted a call to the Linwood Congregational Church, Christchurch. Prior to coming to Gore, Mr Burgess was stationed at Raglan, in the Auckland province. His successor has been named, but is not officially announced. Sir Otto Neimeyer arrived at Christchurch from Mount Cook last evening and caught the ferry steamer, states a Press Association message. In his brief stay in Christchurch he met members of the Chamber of Commerce and gave a very brief address in which he directed attention to problems of instability of exchange and prices without offering opinions of his own. He did say, however, that he thought New Zealand with many other countries would have to do without gold currency for some time yet. At a meeting of the central executive of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign it was decided that negotiations should be entered into through the Department of Health with Dr Cumpson, Commonwealth Director-General of Health, with a view to getting the services of Dr. A. Burrows, who for some years has been radium adviser to the Commonwealth Government, states a Wellington Press Association message. Prior to his Australian appointment he had a distinguished career at the Manchester Radium Institute. On Dr. Burrow’s advice and after consultation with the local medical committees, radium centres were established in all principal cities of the Commonwealth. Provision was made for Thorough and co-ordinated investigation of all cases of cancer attending these centres.
