At the last annual meeting it was decided to affiliate with the Eastern District Lawn Tennis Association and to enter a team in the B grade competition. A team was entered and much enthusiasm was shown by members. Three tournaments were held during the season, these proving most enjoyable. \ A singles tourney was held after Christmas. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £l6. It was decided that the membership fee should be the same as formerly. A recommendation to the incoming committee was that trees should be planted in the southwest corner. THE CITIZEN’S CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Gore Citizens’ Tennis Club states:—The 1929-30 season was very successful from both the financial and playing points of view. The B grade team was again successful in its competition after numerous very closely contested and interesting matches. The club’s representatives were successful in annexing the McCorkindale Cup from the Gore Club, this being the first occasion on which we have held the cup. During the season the club conducted a handicap combined doubles tournament, and the club members are to be congratulated on the interest taken by them in the tournament and the manner in which they assisted the committee by playing matches to schedule. The winners were Miss N. Paterson and Mr D. Meldrum, who played very consistently throughout the competition. They received as trophies two first grade racquets, one of which was generously donated by Mr Hugh McCorkin-dale,-the other being purchased by the club. The club received from two interested supporters trophies for ladies’ and men’s handicap singles' competitions, and after a number of interesting matches the winners proved to be Miss M. Mahpr and Mr D. McLeod. These competitions stimulated interest in the club and thanks are due to Mr McCorkindale and the others who so kindly presented trophies, thus enabling us to hold such satisfactory tournaments. The club was well represented in all representative matches played by the district team, the following players participating in matches: ..Misses Kelly, Maher, Aitken, Paterson and Jopp, and Messrs Meldrum, Maude, Miller and McLeod, the last named also gaining a place in the Southland team in the inter-provincial matches. The first lady, Miss M. Kelly, gained a place in the Otago Training College team, and was successful in her matches when representing the college. She also competed with success at the Southland championships, as, partnered with Miss Harvey, they reached the final of the ladies’ handicap doubles before meeting with defeat. At the South Canterbury tournament Meldrum and McLeod were runners-up in the men’s handicap doubles and McLeod and Miss Melvin, a former member of your club, were successful in winning the handicap combined doubles. At the Otago championship tournament Messrs McLeod and Blaikie won the men’s handicap doubles. Taken throughout, the standard of tennis during the season compared favourably with that of previous years, and although the weather was far from satisfactory the attendance of players kept up to the end of the season.

From the financial point of view the season must also be considered satisfactory, as the club commenced the season with a credit balance of £lB 1/- and after paying for the top-dressing of the courts and the usual expenses it now has the sum of £3O 5/6 to its credit at the Invercargill Savings Bank, an increase of £l2 4/6. Nothing has yet been done regarding the pavilion, as last season the club could not face the expense of the necessary alterations. However, the ladies are working under a severe handicap through lack of room, and something will have to be done in the near future. The matter will be placed before members at the annual general meeting for discussion.
