Murray (Gore), president of the Eastern District Rugby Sub-Union in presenting the banner, said that the Wyndham team had acquiteed themselves most creditably during the year, having played 14 matches, winning them all and scoring 256 points, with, only 21 points against. This was a performance that could bear boosting, and one that the club should feel proud of. The Wyndham club was fortunate in having such a band of old enthusiasts -connected with the club, especially Mr H. J. Murphy. In handing the banner over to Mr H. S. Jones (captain) he expressed the hope that next year Wyndham would enter a team in the senior grade competition. Mr Murray then presented to the captain the St. George Challenge Shield, complimenting the club on holding the much coveted trophy against such a strong team as had journeyed to Wyndham to contest the shield. Mr Jones, in replying, thanked-the president of the sub-union for his remarks in regard to his team, who had always played as a band of mates. He thanked the members of the team for their kind co-operat-ion during the year, and hoped that next year those present would be honouring the Eastern District first grade victors. The chairman then called upon Mr A. Wilson jnr., to accept a medallion as a memento of his conection with the team during the year. In his capacity as coach he had been of great assistance to the team. Mr H. S. Jones also took the opportunity’ of asking Mr Wilson’s acceptance of. a fire screen as a small mark of appreciation and esteem from the members of the team. Mr Wilson as the club’s coach had expended a great deal of time in the interests of the team, and a great deal of the success attained by the team was due to his instruction and services as coach. Mr Wilson suitably returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him. Mr Thompson (Waimumu) congratulated the club on its success during the year, and the sporting manner in which it had contested matches. Mr Wilson snr., on behalf of the club, thanked the citizens of Wyndham for their enjoyable evening, and for the kindly remarks expressed upon the success of the club.
