BUILT IN AUSTRALIA
PLANE LACQUERED LIKE GIANT KINGFISHER. The first aeroplane to be built by De Havilland Aircraft Pty. Limited for the Vacuum Oil Company in Australia was tested in Sydney a few days ago, and found to be in perfect working order. The plane is lacquered to represent an Australian Kingfisher, and lends itself admirably for this purpose. Mr D. Grieve, a Melbourne artist, was commissioned to select the most beautiful Australian bird on which to model the lacquering of the new machine. The body js lacquered a beautiful kingfisher blue, black, fawn and cream, in keeping with the colouring of the plumage of the Kingfisher. The tail is blue, and the wings are blue and black on top and cream and blue underneath. The fuselage underneath is painted blue, and the fore part of the fuselage is white breasted. The machine is to be used by the company for rapid interstate transport of the company’s officers, - and for the inspection of country depots in remote parts of Australia. It will also be used in country centres to foster aviation.
