AT LOGGERHEADS
TEACHERS’ FEDERATION AND MINISTER. ACCUSATIONS RESENTED. Sydney, February 4. The Minister of Education, Mr Drummond, declines further official communication with the State Public School Teachers’ Federation owing to the latter’s president, Mr McGuinness, accusing the Government of repudiating its promise to make the teachers’ award retrospective to 1927. The Minister declares that no such promise was made, and refuses to recognize the federation until it “appoints as its officers men who may be expected to confine themselves to fair dealing and truthful statements.” Mr McGuinness maintains that the promise was made and will not retract the accusation.
