MONTHLY MEETING. LECTURE BY MR P. PLUMER. The monthly meeting of the Garden Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. lecture hall last evening, ‘Mr L. Lennie presiding over a very good attendance. « The syllabus subject for the evening was a lecture by Mr P. Plumer on “Rose Culture and Garden Lawns.” «•> Mr Plumer went exhaustively into his subject in regard to the cultivation and pruning of rose trees. He also gave very instructive information concerning the preparation and sowing down of new lawns and the treatment with regard to the eradication of weeds and to the combating of insect pests. At the close of his address, he answered certain questions from his audience. A hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer was carried unanimously. Other Business. Arrangements for a tour of inspection of some of the northern gardens were finalized for Saturday next. For those unable to attend them, the following Wednesday has been set aside for a like inspection. Owing to the lack of public support at the recent summer rose show, the club was unable to pay out prize money.
