VOLUNTEER LABOUR

VICTORIAN’ TIMBER MILLS

END OF STRIKE IN SIGHT.

Melbourne, June 6.

There is evidence in. the opening of the timber mills with the aid of volunteer labour that the timber strike, which is now in its eighteenth week, is collapsing. It is estimated that 1200 men are now working in the mills. The master builders are receiving applications from men to be allowed to return, and as soon as enough men are available the jobs will be re-opened. The bush’ milts are also to be opened next Monday. There have been 600 applications for jobs.—Australian Press Association.
