POWER CUT OFF
NEW SOUTH WALES COALFIELDS.
ENGINE-DRIVERS CEASE WORK.
Sydney, June 6
Another step was taken last night towards bringing the coalfields into a state of utter desolation when the engine-drivers at the Hebburn collieries refused duty, thereby plunging the adjoining towns, which are dependent on these mines for power, into darkness. At the Kurri Hospital, where 66 patients are awaiting operations, the nurses and doctors were compelled to make shift with hurricane lamps.
The Elrington colliery automatically ceases operations, as its power comes from Hebburn. —Australian Press Association.
