The Public Works Department advised that it desired to dispose of a piece of land adjoining the experimental area in West Gore and wished to know if the council intended to acquire it for the purpose of a recreation reserve.—Received. Works Committee. The Works Committee recommended:— (1) That one dozen be procured at 16/each; (2) that the owners of property in Vera street be given a final notice and prosecuted if the gorse is not eradicated in 14 days; (3) that the sewer and water be extended a further two chains to reach Haynes’ property in Elizabeth street; (4) that the matter of the Ardwick street footpath be left over until an estimate was received from the foreman of works or engineer; (5) that the hollows between the footpath and the channel in Main street north be filled and the footpath levelled. The committee reported that it had conferred with the district railway engineer in regard to railway crossing signs. As the borough by-laws regulated the traffic to 15 miles per hour the engineer had agreed to look into the regulations and see if the signs were required. If he found that they were necessary he would submit a quotation for the making of the cross-signs by the Railway Department for the Gore Borough. The committee’s recommendations were adopted and the clause in regard to signs at railway crossings was adopted and referred to the Works Committee to frame a protest against, the borough being required 'to erect such signs. Water Committee. The Water Committee recommended that the application of Mr W. H. B. McCorkindale to have the town water supply connected with his residency be refused, as his property was too far outside the boundary. The committee also recommended that the application of Mr Broom, Berry street, to have his residence connected with the town water supply be granted provided the applicant supplied the pipes.
